Marge Royston

Kentucky based photographer, Marge Royston has had a camera in her hand or bag since 1982. Her mother and her sister gave Marge a 35mm camera when she was a freshman in high school, and from there on, she was hooked. Motivation to attend college came solely from her ambition to learn more about photography and art. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Fine Art in Photography from Shepherd University in West Virginia. Always striving for a balance between her development of her personal work and commercial work, and always grateful to get to make a living doing what she loved so much.

She has brought her experience as a parent and an educator to her collaborative experiences, producing high quality images for advertising, retail, catalog, lifestyle, corporate and editorial clients. A team leader who motivates, as well as elevates clients visual imagery needs, she strives to share her optimistic view of beauty and always look for the light.

She began shooting freelance assignments after college and then worked full time at JCPenney Company corporate headquarters in Texas as studio manager and then photographing executive portraits, fashion, and product for in store signage and pre print. After almost six years of corporate America, she decided to open her own studio with two partners, called Studio Venus. This 6500 square foot space was booming with multiple shoots on a daily basis. But after her daughter began getting older, it was time to move closer to family. Back in Maryland she was able to have the best of both worlds, quality family time and do the work she loved for The Washington Post Express. After five years, opportunity knocked again with a full time position building a new e-commerce studio near Louisville for Amazon. This high volume, fast paced setting pushed her to always maintain the drive for quality no matter what and helped refine her training and team leadership. Since then, she has been freelancing for various clients and continues to be amazed at the ever evolving industry and thrilled to take photographs all the time.
